Izu going SCUBA diving?

Shortly after 4 am on October 1st, six foreign English teachers headed down to the Izu Peninsula with four Japanese SCUBA instructors. After a few stops and some Tokyo rush hour traffic, we arrived at the beach/training facility. We spent a couple hours training in the pool, and then had a quick lunch. After lunch, we went for a dive! For five of us, it was the first time. For me, the last time I went diving was my certification dive in 1996. Something about good intentions...! Had a great time, and then headed back. Stopped in Numazu for some excellent fresh seafood - I tried uni which, while not fantastic, was not nearly as bad as I'd feared.
