Early in December, I went with a number of former NOVA friends to see the wild waterbirds at Hotoka numa (Hotoka marsh). There were quite a few ducks and swans, and a few that were not familiar to me from Canada .
After that, we made a quick stop at a shrine, which was really quiet and peaceful. Next to the shrine was a beautiful little restaurant where we had a kaiseki lunch. Kaiseki is the Japanese equivalent of “haute cuisine.” Multiple courses, where presentation is as important as taste. Everything was amazingly delicious! And even though it seemed like a lot of really small plates, there was actually a lot of food and I was pretty stuffed.
