April 1st

I didn’t sleep well, and woke up feeling fairly sick, with a touch of fever. I walked over to the dive shop, and even though I wasn’t feeling great, I decided to go for it. I grabbed a bit of breakfast, and then we headed out on the boat. It took about an hour to get out there, but we set up the gear, and just relaxed. There were a few other people on the boat – some guys doing divemaster training, and another girl doing some diving. I was with a Swiss couple for an open water dive. Given the long time since my certification and the lack of practice, I sort of needed to be walked through a lot of stuff. But it wasn’t that difficult. We dove in the morning, took a break for lunch, and then dove again in the afternoon. The day was sort of overcast, so the light wasn’t great, but I got a few decent pictures. Some of them were actually taken by the divemaster, but I’m not entirely sure which ones. Most of the ones with the flash likely. Among the multitudes of random fish, we did see a couple of nudibranches, a scorpion fish, a boxer shrimp and a giant puffer fish. I also managed to cut my leg on the first dive, but didn’t realize it as under the water, red blood looks purple. I thought I’d just scraped my leg and gotten something smeared on it. Oops.

We just relaxed on the way back, and after showering, I took a few pictures, had dinner and laid out on a small dock in front of the bungalow and just watched the stars until the mosquitoes found me.

This is one of the several non-photography uses I've found for the gorilla pod - the electrical outlet was really loose, and the charger for my phone wouldn't stay in. Handy thing, that gorillapod.
