Driving out of Tomakomai, I got onto the road running along the coast, and enjoyed the scenery. When the road meandered away from the coast, it wandered through rolling farmland, mostly of the cow and horse variety. Very pastoral, and reminded me (in look and smell!) of home.
Got down to Erimo misaki (Cape Erimo) just before sunset. Stopped for a few pictures.
After sunset, I called a campsite an hour or so up the road and headed off. I saw a couple of foxes, and a LOT of deer. Enough to make me want to drive at a fairly cautious speed!
Pulled into Bensei Onsen/Campground around 8ish. 500 yen for the onsen, but then you get to camp for free! Close enough to the ocean to hear the waves, and dark enough to see all the stars that are missing near the city.
Chatted with some bikers for a while, and crashed with the intent of waking up to see the sunrise and get an early start.
